A source, speaking anonymously to Nigerian Tribune, revealed, “Residents of Bichi town were allegedly planning to prevent the installation from taking place. Security operatives acted swiftly to maintain peace and order.”
The sealing of the palace reportedly discouraged prominent figures from attending the event. The installation of a district head in Bichi has sparked widespread dissatisfaction, with locals viewing the move as a demotion of their town’s traditional status.
Following the dissolution of the five Emirate Councils established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, other affected towns now have second-class emirs, while Bichi has been relegated to being ruled by a district head. This has fueled discontent among residents, who feel their town’s importance has been diminished.
Heavily armed police officers were stationed at the palace entrance by 7 a.m. on Friday, restricting movement and maintaining order. Observers and stakeholders have described the security action as a necessary measure to prevent potential chaos.
