Emotions, Tributes As Reverend Helen Smith Laid To Rest In Lagos

Eko Hot Blog reports that the funeral service of the Late Reverend Helen Omotunde Smith, who passed away aged 69 years, was held today, January 19, 2024.

The funeral service, which was attended by family, friends, and her old classmates from her alma mater, Molusi College, set of 1969/73, took place at Eniola Event Center, Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos State.

The service commenced with somber music from a music band, as the Pallbearers danced with her casket, accompanied by the deceased children, siblings and other family members to the hall where she was temporarily laid to rest.

With reverence to almighty, one of the sons of the late Smith was called upon to read the bible verses for the service, followed by a hymn.

 

Rev Fashiku gave an insightful description of the person of Late Smith, tagging her a revivalist, before delivering his sermon.

 

“Rev Helen Smith was a revivalist. She was always on fire and if you don’t have the spirit of revival, it’s better you step aside,” the cleric stated.

 

“I remember during our national convention in Ibadan, she would make sure she distribute things to both male and females. During those times, she used to call me my brother.

 

“It will interest you to know that we were ordained into the ministry in the same time. What we ate were already prepared. She is that good. We are talking about her today. What will be said about you when you leave?” He asked before delving deeper into the sermon of the day.

 

Members of late Smith’s alma mater from Molusi College set of 1969/73 paid their tributes to her and recited the school anthem in her honour.

The children of the deceased were called upon for thanksgiving for the celebration of the life of their mother. Members of the audience joined them to commiserate with them and the family were prayed for.

The younger brother to the deceased, Lateef Smith, gave a brief vote of thanks appreciating the people who came to commiserate with them.

Friends and other persons present joined the family as they made their way with the remains of the deceased to lkoyi cemetery, where she was finally laid to rest.

The tribute from family, friends and people present were testament that the late Reverend Smith was a lovable person and her memories will linger on till time passes.
