Eko Hot Blog reports that in a bid to empower host communities and ensure smoother implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has launched the Host Community Development and Administration Trust Board of Trustees (BOT) Forum.

At the inauguration event held in Abuja, top officials from NUPRC, alongside community leaders and stakeholders, gathered to witness the milestone.
Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, the commission’s chief executive, emphasized the necessity of the forum, stating, “We need a vehicle that would enable the smooth administration of the host community provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), 2021.” He highlighted the importance of social inclusion and peace for the industry’s success, emphasizing the role of the newly established forum in achieving these objectives.
The commission, in compliance with the PIA, has incorporated 103 Trusts to oversee the implementation of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT). Engr. Komolafe underscored the commitment to transparent implementation and efficiency, mentioning the development of a real-time digital portal/reporting system called HOSTCOMPLY for effective scheme administration.
