The Alara of Ilara, Oba Olukayode Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, has charged Yoruba indigenes to emulate King Kosoko’s precious virtues
Oba Olukayode gave this charge on Sunday at the just-concluded annual King Kosoko Memorial lecture held Lagos.
The monarch said the Yoruba race should emulate the chaste and eternally beneficial attributes of king Kosoko, to foster growth unity and continued progress in all Yoruba land.
The Alara of Ilara gave a moving anecdote at the conclusion of the King Kosoko Memorial Lecture themed: Lagos Economy in the Era of King Kosoko: A Tale of Prosperity and The Decline.
He lauded the Royal Household of King Kosoko for organizing such a delightful event, noting that, “It is of utmost importance that the tales, myth and legends of our ancestors are passed down from generation to generation, so as to preserve our unique heritage.”
Oba Olukayode further charged participant at the event to emulate the good virtues of King Kosoko which enabled him to surmount various life-threatening challenges and came out unscathed.
His words, “One or two things I want us to go back home with is that, King Kosoko had some special qualities which if we look at our country today, if we can replicate it, we will definitely get out of the woods. King Kosoko was a leader a courageous one at that, King Kosoko was resilient, he was down, and he came back again.”
“King Kosoko was very industrious, that’s why he was very wealthy and he was (also) generous, by wanting his people to be prosperous. That is one of the things that is lacking in our midst today, and its one lesson we are taking back home from here.”
“He was diligent, and he’s also an intellect. A lot of professors have given us their words, and we have heard from them. And then the history, the legacy from the history is something that we should also note,” he added.
The event ended with a book launch. The book titled; King Kosoko: His Life, His People and Settlements… The hidden.
It was officially launched by Sarkin Fulani of Lagos, Alhaji, Mohammad Bambado.
The book is a detailed documentation about the biography of King Kosoko.
