A petitioner, Humphrey Nwaiwu, on Wednesday, demanded a ₦100 million indemnification from the Nigeria Police Force over the killing of his 28-year-old son, Henry Nwaiwu, who was a graduate of the University of Calabar.

Eko Hot Blog gathers that Nwaiwu demanded compensation when he appeared before the Rivers State Panel of Inquiry into cases of alleged brutality by operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He explained that operatives of the Old GRA police Division allegedly shot his son to death, alleging that he was an armed robber but later turned out that the accusation was false.

In a related development, another petitioner, Princewill Isinwor also accused operatives of the disbanded SARs unit of killing his younger brother, Friday Isinwor, on March 11, 2009.

According to the petitioner, his brother was arrested over an alleged communal matter and later died as a result of torture meted out on him in custody.

Isinwor, however, demanded the sum of 150 million compensation from the police.

The panel adjourned further hearing on the cases.
