EndSARS: Chaos In Osogbo As Protest Turns Violent

October 15, 2020.

  • There was pandemonium among the End SARS protesters in Osogbo, Osun State on Thursday morning as suspected cultists with dangerous weapons chased protesters from a protest ground.

Youths have been actively involved in the protest for over six days in Osogbo. They have been protesting against brutality, extortion and extra-judicial killings by the operatives of Anti-Robbery Response Squad (SARS) before it was taken over by the suspected cultists on Wednesday night.

Witnesses attest to the fact that the protesters on Wednesday night looted shops in Osogbo.

Recall that the Osun State Government had complained bitterly that the ongoing End SARS protests had been forcefully controlled by some hoodlums in the state.

Young men suspected to be cultists were reported to have taken over the End SARS protest to cause disorder and confusion on the residents of the town, thereby causing traffic on major roads.

At about 7:30 am on Thursday, some protesters assembled at Oke-fia, obstructing the road leading to the Osun State government house.

According to reports, some youths advanced towards the protesters and ordered them to stop the protest and join others at Olaiya junction.

The commotion started at Olaiya junction around 10 am as young men stormed the place with cutlasses, axe and some other dangerous weapons. They succeeded in hijacking the protest.

Osogbo community, in Osun state, has, however, complained about the manner of protests in the town, saying the style of protests is causing a disturbance in the state.
