There are strong indications that, for the first time in a decade, one of the most anticipated December events in Lagos State – The Greater Lagos Fiesta – might not hold this year.

The fiesta, which undoubtedly provides a boost for the tourism and entertainment industry in the state, is one of the most attended events of the Yuletide season by fun-seekers.

Eko Hot Blog gathers that the decision to halt preparations for the event is informed by the recent carnage that ensued in the aftermath of the #EndSARS demonstrations across the country during which Lagos was badly affected.

An internal memo signed on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Olaide-Mesewaku Babatunde, revealed that the Y2020 Greater Lagos Fiesta has been suspended.

“It is hereby notified for general information that the Y2020 Greater Lagos Fiesta has been suspended.

“The State has undoubtedly experienced one of its darkest periods in recent history and in the words of Mr. Governor: ‘This may seem like the darkest hour of our history as a people, our sun will rise again from the present ashes of our mourning today, a bright morning shall emerge from the womb of time and we shall rise again’ “, the memo partly read.
