EKO HOT BLOG reports that gun-wielding police officers have occupied the Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of the Lagos Island on the one-year anniversary of the Lekki shooting of October 20, 2020.
At least two protesters have been arrested and hauled into a police van, while unconfirmed reports say a journalist with Legitnews has also been beaten and held by security personnel.
Recall that popular Nigerian rapper, Falz, had intimated protesters that the memorial will hold in form of a vehicular procession while every protester will remain in the vehicle during the protest.

He added that a vehicular procession will also not be hindered.
The October 2020 protests against police brutality, extortion and profiling culminated in gunshots, when soldiers and police officers fired live rounds into a crowd of unarmed, peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll.
Amnesty International reports that at least 12 young people died on the night, with other reports claiming that the death toll was much higher.
