England Defence Coach Felix Jones Resigns After Seven Months
This follows the recent exit of strength and conditioning expert Aled Walters, who has joined the Ireland setup.
Jones is reportedly under a 12-month notice period in his contract with the Rugby Football Union (RFU). However, after just seven months in the role, it is believed that the 37-year-old has handed in his resignation.

Jones joined England’s coaching staff after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, where he played a crucial role in helping South Africa secure back-to-back world championships.
The RFU has yet to comment on Jones’ departure, but his decision is seen as a significant blow to the team, particularly following Walters’ exit. Jones and Walters share a close professional relationship, having previously worked together at Munster and with the Springboks.
Jones, a former Ireland international, has quickly established himself as a successful coach, contributing to South Africa’s World Cup victories in 2019 and 2023.

Since stepping in as defence coach in January, succeeding Kevin Sinfield, Jones has been instrumental in transforming England’s defensive strategy by implementing an aggressive blitz defence. He was regarded as a crucial figure in the coaching staff moving forward.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sinfield’s position remains uncertain. Initially, he announced plans to leave this summer, just 18 months into a five-year contract. However, Borthwick recently indicated that Sinfield is expected to remain with the team as a part-time skills coach following the tour of New Zealand.
