“It has always been my desire to contribute my quota to the development of any community I find myself in.
Progress should not be left to the government alone. When they see our efforts, they will be compelled to do more,” he stated.
Highlighting the economic potential of Epe, he expressed concerns that while major projects like Dangote Refinery and Alaro City are transforming the region, many Epe indigenes have been left out of employment opportunities due to a lack of industry-specific experience.
“The private sector plays a crucial role in reducing unemployment, yet many of our youths are not employed in these industries.
Not because they are not educated, but because they lack the necessary experience. We need to engage companies, understand their requirements, and train our youths accordingly so they can secure these jobs and become self-sufficient,” he explained.
Engr. Ogunsanya also spoke about his deep-rooted love for Epe, despite spending much of his life outside the town.
He revealed that his family encouraged him to return and ensure that their name remains relevant in Epe’s history.
“Though Epe is close to Lagos, in terms of development, it still lags behind. But opportunities are coming, and we must take full advantage of them to make Epe a better place,” he said.
When asked about his appointment as the first Bashorun of Epe Land, Engr. Ogunsanya admitted that he was initially hesitant.
“When I first heard about the Bashorun title, I was scared. I told the Kabiyesi that I would think about it, but he firmly replied, ‘I’m not asking you to think about it, I am telling you that you will take it.’ At that point, I had no choice,” he recounted.
He disclosed that he had previously declined multiple chieftaincy titles in places like Ogbomoso, Iwopin, and Ijebu Ode, and was even approached to become a king in Iwopin, which he turned down.
“At some point, I even pretended that I was not learned, just to avoid accepting a title. But I had to think about the future and eventually embraced the role wholeheartedly,” he said.
Now as the Bashorun of Epe Land, Engr. Ogunsanya is focused on youth empowerment and community development.
He encouraged young people, especially those studying engineering, to remain focused and work on projects that will benefit society.
“Engineers must be diligent because a single mistake can cost many lives. I urge students to think about innovations that can positively impact our community, rather than relying solely on foreign products,” he advised.

He also called on wealthy individuals to give back to society, stressing that prosperity should be shared to create a more balanced and peaceful community.
“Anyone in a position of power and wealth should extend their riches to the less privileged. When everyone is happy and safe, society thrives,” he concluded.
