EKO HOT BLOG reports that Enugu State Governor-elect, Barrister Peter Mbah, emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law as he declared his assets before the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Enugu on Friday.
Peter Mbah, who is set to be sworn in as governor on Monday, May 29, visited the CCB’s South East Zonal Office in Enugu to submit his assets declaration forms, emphasizing the significance of transparency and accountability in governance.
After presenting the forms to Barrister Benedict Umeano, the Federal Commissioner in charge of the South East Zone of the CCB, Mbah addressed journalists, stating, “As the Chief Executive, we are meant to uphold the law. It is also incumbent on us to act lawfully, and what we have simply done here today is in line with the new direction of my career.”
Peter Mbah, who is transitioning from the corporate sector to the public sector, drew parallels between the Codes of Corporate Governance in the private sector and the Code of Conduct for public servants in the public sector.
He emphasized that his submission of the assets declaration forms was a lawful requirement and a demonstration of his commitment to adhering to the law.
Highlighting his administration’s stance on the matter, Mbah announced that all appointees within his government would also be expected to undergo the assets declaration process.
He underscored the mandatory nature of the procedure, stating, “My administration shall be upholding these requirements for all public officers. It is mandatory and it’s not an option. As public servants, we are not left with any option but to fill our CCB forms. We must abide by the provisions of the law.”
Commending Mbah’s exemplary leadership, Barrister Umeano, the CCB Federal Commissioner, remarked, “By the grace of God, by Monday, he (Mbah) will be the chief law officer of the state. By this submission, he has shown that he is going to lead by example.
He has given a good example to the rest of the other politicians and even those who are going to be his functionaries that they have to comply with the rule of law. We commend him for this.”
