Statistics show that over 10 million people lack decent toilets and handwashing facilities and even 55 million Nigerians do not have access to clean water.
In this vein, the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who had earlier launched an initiative , Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), yesterday declared a state of emergency on the sector.

The governor who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Ortuanya, said the declaration became necessary to know of the importance of hygiene to humanity.
Ugwuanyi decried that the sector had not received the needed attention in the country which has led to several challenges to citizens.
