EKO HOT BLOG reports that during Tuesday’s plenary session, April 8, 2025, Lebechi announced his departure, citing unresolved internal crises within the Labour Party. His resignation letter was read aloud by the Speaker, Uche Ugwu.
Lebechi declared that the Labour Party was “almost dead” due to the ongoing turmoil, adding that after extensive consultations with his constituents and party stakeholders, he had no choice but to move on. He said his decision was influenced not only by the internal collapse of the party but also by his admiration for Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership in the state.
“I wish my well-wishers, my supporters, and party members who stood by me during my election the best,” he stated. “The Labour Party has been facing problems that could not be resolved for years. I consulted widely, held meetings, and engaged with critical stakeholders, but it became clear that the issues were beyond repair. My constituents advised me to move to a better platform, and that platform is the PDP.”
Lebechi praised Governor Peter Mbah’s development strides, describing his leadership as “unusual” and visionary. He cited improvements in security, agriculture, healthcare, and road infrastructure as reasons for his decision to support the PDP-led government.
“I read Computer Science and understand what AI can do. In every sector that affects human life, our governor is working tirelessly to transform Enugu into London. I have no option but to join hands with him,” he said.
