Enugu Police Arrest Nigeria Based Ghanaian, For Allegedly Pouring Hot Water On Lover’s Breasts

Enugu state police have arrested a Nigeria based Ghanaian man, Emmanuel Opoku, who allegedly poured hot water on his lover’s, Chiamaka Ngwu (25) breast.

It was gathered that the incident happened at their home in Akuke-Awkunanaw, Enugu.

The 28-year-old man was arrested after a petition was raised against him on July 10 by the Women Aid Collective (WACOL).

It was learned that the suspect and his lover have been together for over three years and have had three children together but were not legally married.

The Enugu state police command in a statement released by its spokesperson, ASP Ndukwe Ekea, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

Ekea said the Opoku’s arrest was sequel to a petition received at the command’s headquarters on July 10 from Women Aid Collective (WACOL), Enugu that he allegedly committed the act on June 23 following a misunderstanding between the lovers.

”Preliminary investigation reveals that the lovers have been together for over three (3) years with three (3) children, but are yet to be customarily or otherwise married.

”It further shows that they had misunderstanding on the said date, which led to the suspect pouring hot water, intended for the preparation of pap, all over the victim’s breasts. This caused her grievous bodily harm” the statement read

The spokesperson said Opoku has been charged to court and remanded in Police custody for further hearing.

He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad AbdurRahman MCPSS, MCJ, MNIM has directed an investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

Hecautioned married or about to wed couples to shun acts of domestic violence.

The command charged residents of the State to promptly report any person(s) found committing or have committed acts of assault/grievous bodily harm and related offences, due to domestic violence, to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202 or 08098880172.
