  • On Sunday, February 14, 2021, the focus of many football fans was on the big game at the Enyimba international stadium.
  • Two of some of Nigeria’s finest clubs, Enyimba FC of Aba and their neighbors, Rivers United of Port Harcourt went to battle in what was the biggest game in Nigeria at the weekend
  • These two clubs have their epic rivalry well documented and beyond football, bragging rights were involved.

Enyimba FC of Aba got a hard-fought 1-0 victory in a thrilling CAF Confederations Cup game in Aba against Rivers United of Port Harcourt.

Rivers United came into game with zest as they were promised 20 million naira if they beat the People’s Elephants in Aba. For Enyimba, they had a glorious handshake from the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, hours before the game and it is clear what that means

Just one hour before the game, the clouds became dark and in no distant time, it would pour. Despite the cloudburst, the referees agreed that the game would go ahead. As soon as the CAF anthem was heard, the stage was set for a thrilling game.

The game started and the pitch was waterlogged and the flow of the ball was affected for obvious reasons. At the 10th minute, the centre referee decided to wait for the rains to subside and play was temporarily stopped,  EKO HOT BLOG   gathered.

The rains began to subside and the visiting team would be amazed when they step out from their dressing room. The audience on TV also saw the marvels of technology

The pitch which was constructed by Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited was set to leave an impression in the minds of viewers on TV and the visiting team.

Mr Ebi Egbe, also known as Monimichelle, who is the contractor that handled the refurbishing of the stadium had promised that water would drain from the pitch after five or ten minutes.

The Abia State Government invested so much in the refurbishing of the stadium and getting the two-time CAF Champions League winners a classic turf that would be standard.

From the pictures, it is clear that a good job was done at the Enyimba pitch by the State Government who insisted on top quality and the company which delivered as they were commissioned

Both sides expressed themselves well in the second half as if nothing had happened. Truly, the wonders of the world-class pitch was a joy to behold

Pictures where the pitch was waterlogged were taken in the first half during the temporary break. Pictures where the pitch was dry were taken after restart in the first half and in the second half
