Epe Agog As EcoAmbassadors, Others Celebrate World Environment Day In Style
- “FABE International Foundation was supportive in making this exercise noteworthy” – Eco Coordinator
By Babatunde Kaka
Eco Ambassadors from Epe Local Government, Lagos State, Nigeria, joined millions of environmental activists, enthusiasts and stakeholders to celebrate the day set aside to improve global action towards protecting the earth against climate change and global warming.
Inspired by FABE International Foundation through the provision of environmental sustainability training and distribution of gardening materials during the EcoSchoolsNg project, Army Children Junior Epe and Odomola Senior High Schools Eredo LCDA carried out tree planting exercise and sensitization talks regarding the importance of trees in combatting climate change and global warming. While Odomola had theirs on Friday 4th, Army Children did on Saturday 5th June 2021 in their respective school premises.
Ekohotblog gathered that at Army Children Junior High School, Epe, 20 umbrella tree seedlings were planted around the school premises in a fun and informative planting exercise. The male Eco ambassadors who took active parts in the exercise after completing a sensitization session, thereafter engaged in a five-a-side football competition while the girls also tried out the beautiful game.
Speaking with Ekohotblog, the school’s Eco Coordinator, Babatunde Kaka, expressed excitement at the exercise and was grateful to sponsors and the Eco Ambassadors’ parents for releasing their wards for the exercise on a weekend.
He disclosed that the tree seedlings were nursed having learned about the process during the FABE-sponsored EcoSchoolsNg virtual training the previous year.
“I’m stunned by the activities of these children, they saw some dead trees in the school compound and they insisted that they’ll replace it with one of the tree seedlings. Even after the exercise, they got light refreshments but refused to return home, insisting they engaged themselves in the game of football, the girls inclusive. That alone made my day. However, I give kudos to their parents for allowing them to participate because the celebration took place globally on a weekend.

I can’t forget to appreciate FABE International Foundation. When I was contacted to take delivery of tree seedlings, they were stunned when I told them my school have nursed 20 umbrella tree seedlings to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.
Also, the Education Unit of Nigeria Conservation Foundation has been helpful all these years. I give kudos to both organisations for their outstanding environmental protection advocacy efforts in schools. These are in tandem with one of the six pillars, health and environment programs of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda by the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” he stated.
Similarly, Mrs Oduyemi Esther, the Eco Coordinator for Odomola Senior High School, Eredo LCDA, appreciated the efforts of the Eco ambassadors, noting that their availability and dedication contributed to the success of the tree planting exercise in her school.
She, therefore, disclosed that the provision of logistics by FABE International Foundation was exemplary, an act she wants to continue.

They were also grateful to their Principals, Mrs Anwo E.O (Army Children) and Alhaja Adebanjo (Odomola Senior) and their teachers for their eco-friendly administrative leadership which paved way for the exercise.
