Residents of Epe may soon heave a sigh of relief as the prolonged electricity blackout in the ancient town is set to come to an end, following assurances from Hon. Abiodun Tobun, the lawmaker representing Epe Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, Tobun acknowledged the months-long total blackout that has disrupted economic activities and daily life in Epe, assuring residents that the Lagos State Government has taken decisive steps to restore power supply to the area.
According to the lawmaker, the state government has approved billions of naira for the installation of a power step-down facility in Epe, alongside alternative solar energy solutions aimed at ensuring stable and sustainable electricity across Epe Division.
He disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within a few months.
Tobun explained that the government is working closely with relevant electricity distribution companies and private sector partners to guarantee the timely and effective execution of the power project, noting that reliable electricity is critical to Epe’s rapid growth.
He described Epe as a strategic development corridor in Lagos State, stressing that the town is fast emerging as the next phase of the Lekki axis.
“Epe is a viable community with enormous investment opportunities. With improved infrastructure, it is well-positioned to become a major commercial and economic hub,” Tobun said.
The lawmaker further highlighted several landmark projects earmarked for the Epe axis, including the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge, a new international airport (MM3), and the largest seaport in Africa.
He also noted that the Dangote Refinery is located within the broader axis, further boosting the area’s economic relevance.
Beyond infrastructure, Tobun said Epe is richly endowed with vast arable land suitable for agriculture, real estate development, tourism, and other commercial ventures capable of driving economic growth and job creation.
He also reeled out his interventions in human capital development, revealing that he has sponsored and empowered several Epe indigenes through technical and vocational education programmes.
According to him, over 500 indigent students have benefited from free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms to support access to tertiary education.
Tobun added that he has facilitated major projects to his alma mater, Epe Grammar School, including the construction of classroom blocks and internal roads, while several Epe indigenes have also benefited from local and foreign scholarships sponsored by him.
In addition, the lawmaker said many youths have been empowered with work tools, equipment, and machinery to promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
He urged youths in the constituency to shun social vices such as cultism and cybercrime, and instead embrace legitimate paths to personal and community development.
Tobun disclosed that he plans to seek a fifth term in office, explaining that his decision is driven by the need to consolidate and complete ongoing developmental initiatives in Epe Constituency I.
He assured residents of continued access to the dividends of democracy through people-oriented policies and impactful community development projects
