Epe Club at 50: “We’ve Grown Beyond Expectations” – Otunba Adisa Osiefa, Epe Club Elders Celebrate 50 Years

The Chairman of the Elders Council of Epe Club and its pioneer leader, Elder Otunba Adisa Osiefa, has expressed delight and reflected on the club’s achievements and heritage as it celebrates its Golden Jubilee.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that on Friday, December 20, 2024, leaders and members of Epe Club gathered at the club’s house to mark 50 years of its existence with a cocktail night-out and dinner party.

In an interview with Ekohotblog, Otunba Adisa Osiefa, who served as the club’s president during its formative years, reminisced about its growth and transformation over the past five decades.

“I was president of the club from 1983 to 1985, and I’ve held almost every chairmanship of committees in the club,” he said.

He highlighted the club’s humble beginnings and how it has evolved into a significant force within the community:

“The number of people here today is a testament to the club’s growth. We started 50 years ago with just 13 young men—some from the UK, others from America or working in the civil service. I hold registration card number 2,” he noted.

“Back then, we rented a house as our meeting place, but we’ve come a long way since then. Look at us now—this is our clubhouse, and the growth is evident.

Today, our members hold key positions in Lagos State politics and civil service. Former Governor Ambode is a member, as is Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat.

We also have members in the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and among local council chairmen.

The younger generation is now running the club while we, the elders, have retired,” he concluded.

Reiterating the club’s dedication to the progress of Epe Division, Otunba Adisa stressed its role in fostering development across the region.

“Our message to the people of Epe is that they should cooperate with us. We will continue to do our best to improve everything in Epe—the infrastructure, the reputation, everything.

We represent the entire division, from Epe township to Ibeju-Lekki, and we will keep striving to do more for the community,” he assured.

In his closing remarks, Otunba Adisa encouraged the youth to remain focused and hardworking in their pursuit of success.

“In life, patience and hard work are key. When I left this country at 22 while working at a bank, it was for a better future. I took risks, but they were calculated risks,” he advised.
