The premier social club in Epe Division, Epe Club, on Saturday, 27th March, paid a solemn and glowing tributes to Madam Sariu Akanke Muritala, mother of Lagos State Accountant General, Dr Shefiu Abiodun Murtala.
Recall that Ekohotblog had reported the demise of the Mrs Sariu on Friday 19th March 2021 and was buried on Saturday 20th March 2021 according to Islamic rites at her Ita-Osugbo country home, Epe.
The event, which was aimed at celebrating the life and times of the accountant general mother, was graced by creme dela creme of Epe and prominent Epe Club members, amongst them are Alhaji Akanni Seriki Bamu, High Chief Wale Mogaji, Hon Wale Raji, Hon Abiodun Tobun, Hon Dahunsi Ogunkelu (Sketel), Hon Segun Olulade (Eleniyan), Hon S.A Shittu, Mr Kehinde amongst others were present.
The President of Epe Club, Engineer Rasheed Shabi, told Ekohotblog in an interview that the Accountant General of Lagos State, Dr Muritala Shefiu Abiodun and Mr Ahmad Oba are integral members of the prestigious Epe Club. He stated that both are paragon of good upbringing.
” We thank God that their mother and grandmother died at old age. She spent a good life and she was a good mother from what I heard from people around her. Dr Abiodun Muritala and Ahmad Oba are good examples of very respectful children that she raised. They are nice chaps”, he noted.
Engineer Rasheed admitted the inevitability of death in the lives of mortals. He however admonished the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to not only emulate but continue the good legacies she left behind.
Ekohotblog also gathered that the first Grand Child of Madam Akanke Muritala, Mr Olanrewaju Ahmad Oba, was full of praises of his grandmother while also reminiscing her days on earth. He described her as epitome of all that savoury in life.
” Mama is an embodiment of every good thing you can talk about in life. She is a symbol of industry, discipline and Godliness”, he stated.
Ahmad also disclosed his grandmother’s passion for pursuit of knowledge and acquisition of education. He, however, admonished women to build a solid home with their husbands taking cognizance of culture and tradition in the face of modernity.
” She was a food vendor in schools, precisely Early Modern School, Epe Girls High School and so on. She will always wake you up to read in and she adores excellent students.
” There’s no way any woman will influence the children without the help of the husband. My advice to them is to remember that this is Africa, even if we’re moving towards modernity, we can’t run away from our tradition and culture. They have to make sure that they join hands with their husbands and build a solid home”, he averred.
Mr Ahmad was also appreciative of the overwhelming affection and supports during his grandmother’s death and burial. This he attributed to a cordial relationship.
” My appreciation goes to everybody, I was overwhelmed. I never knew that this large crowd would turn up, having understood that we have this program in four different places. The fidau took place at the Family House, Ita-Osugbo, my elder brother made use of the Jubilee Chalet, other family members were at Epe Recreation Center and we are here at Epe Club House”, he stated.
