‘Epe Division Becoming Business Hub’ – Epe Club Celebrates 50 Years Of Community Development

By: Samson Daniel

Epe Club on Friday hosted a classic Cocktail Night Out Dinner to mark its 50th anniversary in grand style at the club’s house in Epe Division.

Founded in 1974, Epe Club is one of the premier clubs in Epe Division.

The club has a distinguished record of contributing to humanity, promoting the indigenous culture and traditions of the Epe people, fostering peace and unity, and setting positive trends for development.

The club marked half a century of existence amidst fun, dancing, dining, and reflection on its impactful contributions to the socio-economic development of Epe, particularly its efforts in human capacity development over the years.

In an interview with Ekohotblog, the President of the club, Hon. Eng. Adebola Rasheed Shabi, recalled that the club’s 50-year journey is a historic milestone rooted in fostering unity and oneness across Epe Division.

“Let me go down memory lane,” he said. “A few young men, who are grandfathers today, came together to ensure that there was, and still is, love and unity among the sons of Epe Division.”

He further explained, “In those days, there was a division—the dichotomy of Ijebu Epe and Eko Epe. But these young men came together, from both Ijebu and Eko Epe, to form Epe Club in 1974, with the aim of fostering unity and demonstrating that we are one Epe, with no distinction between Ijebu Epe or Eko Epe.”

“Because when there is division, it will deprive development from coming into the community,” he added.

Shabi went on to highlight that the unity established by the founding fathers of the club has spurred significant development in Epe.

“Today, we are proud. This division is becoming a business hub—a commercial hub. With Dangote Refinery, Dangote Fertilizer, the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and other businesses coming into the division, we are witnessing growth.”

He also noted the rise in property value in the region, citing Adron Homes’ extensive real estate projects in Epe, with the company’s CEO being an indigene of the area.

The club president further recalled that the club’s influence spans a vast network of prominent individuals, including movers and shakers of commerce.

“We are fortunate to have prominent persons in this division, such as the MD and CEO of Adron Homes, who is from Epe.

“We also have the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Hamzat, the husband of the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, a former governor, Ambode, a retired Supreme Court justice, Justice Ogunbade, and the Chief Whip, Honorable Majid Fatai.”
