- The chieftaincy investiture was part of the activities to mark the week-long one year anniversary of Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, Telade IV as the Alara of Ilara Kingdom.
Kayode Opeifa, a former commissioner for Transport in Lagos State has stated that the unique tourism potentials of Epe Division has adequately positioned it for an industrial revolution.
Opeifa was speaking on the sidelines with Eko Hot Blog after the chieftaincy investiture of eminent personalities as honorary chiefs by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife.
The chieftaincy investiture was part of the activities to mark the week-long one year anniversary of Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, Telade IV as the Alara of Ilara Kingdom.
Opeifa, who hailed the investiture of the chieftains as deserving, said the massive development Epe Division has witnessed in recent years as well as the developmental projects in the offing has strategically positioned the Division for an industrial revolution.
“The selection of the honourees, the observation of COVID protocols, everything was just superb. We must give it to the Kabiyesi and the Chiefs-in-Council. They made the programme a classic one,” Opeifa said after the chieftaincy investiture.
“Its so significant that Ilara is known for its tourism potentials. It used to be Eredo, Ilara, Epe, which used to be a shipping and a trading point in the old western region, and Ilara with a lot of tourist sites.”
On the tourism potentials of Eredo, Ilara and Epe Division at large, Opeifa said that with the experts in the hospitality industry as well as astute businessmen like Femi Otedola who hails from the Division, Epe will in no time spark massive revolution that will make it the economic hub of Lagos state.
“Giving the Baba Eto to somebody in the hospitality industry and the DG of the Nigerian Tourism board couldn’t have just been a coincidence. The same thing goes to all the other honourees including the Speaker of the House of Representatives who facilitated the reconstruction of one of the major roads here.”
“I think the selection is quite impressive. Speaking with Folarin Coker, Baba Eto of Ilara now, given his hospitality mentality and his current position, one will not be surprised if Epe and Ilara Kingdom spring some surprises in the nearest future.”
“With the road linkage that passes through Ilara to Ibonwon, I understand the road now extends to Ijebu-Ode. Don’t forget that we have the likes of Adebowale, Otedola and the rest also coming from this part of Lagos. I believe it is now open to Ilara and Epe in general to start looking at industrial revolution.”

“The road is good, you can move from the south-south, southeast, southwest to the Lekki-Victoria Island of Lagos, very close to the Lekki free zone is the Dangote refinery. I believe with a King like the Alara of Ilara, Oba Kayode Ogunsanwo the sky is the limit for Ilara and the people of Epe. Eredo should start thinking of a new industrial revolution.”
“I was fortunate to have gone through Odomola, Noforija and the likes within these few hours and I can see some good factories. So the opportunities are there. The former governor of Lagos did a lot in intra-town connectivity in this Lagos-Epe road, I can see another one going to Ikorodu. There is another one going to Itoikin. So its now open. I think that’s what the Oba is try to sell; the industrial potentials. The atmosphere is serene, the air quality here I believe is better than most parts of Lagos. So the hospitality business should look for a place for resorts,” he added.
