Eko Hot Blog reports that, in a heartwarming act of philanthropy, the esteemed 1983 set of Epe Girls High School has already made significant strides in fulfilling their commitment to their alma mater.
The group generously donated ICT items to the school and undertook the sponsorship of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations for economically challenged students.
The event took place on the school premises, commencing at 10am yesterday.
During an address to the students, Judge Yinka Adeyemi stressed the imperative role of education, asserting, “Almighty God or the Almighty Allah will not come down to do things that you ought to do yourself. So it’s not just about praying or dreaming about it; you must put it into action.”
Mrs. Kemi Adedeji Gabardeen, Head Of Department In Ministry Of Budget And Planning In Lagos State, echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the importance of focus and mentorship.
She encouraged students to document their dreams, facilitating better decision-making.
In a poignant session, Alhaja Ganiyat Abiodun Tobun Sulaimon imparted invaluable advice, cautioning against detrimental habits. She advised, “Don’t smoke and don’t drink at your age. It will only distract you from your purpose. Don’t have a boyfriend that will get you pregnant at this age without the capacity to take care of you. Be wise about your decisions.”
The donated ICT equipment has been allocated to the junior secondary section. As part of their 40th-anniversary celebrations, the ’83 set expressed their commitment to extending support to the Junior School, as highlighted by Judge Yinka Adeyemi, who stated, “We have not forgotten you; we will still continue to be with you.”
A select group of students, including Adebusunyi Fatimo, Arimi Zainab, Ausa Amudalat, Agbomeji Abibat, Bakare Marriam, Are Fatia, Mushadiru Latifat, Disu Semiat, Onakanya Limota, and Emilere Kodirat, have been sponsored for the upcoming JAMB examinations.
In an interactive session, Mrs. Gabardeen encouraged students to focus on their dreams, write down their aspirations, and seek mentorship.
Quoting Mrs. Gabardeen, “Today we are assuring you that Lagos State now has three universities in Lagos State alone,” emphasizing that educational goals are within reach.
Alhaja Ganiyat Abiodun Tobun Sulaimon’s guidance resonated with the students, providing valuable insights for making informed life choices and avoiding distractions.
During the vote of thanks, the head girl of Epe Girls High School who pleaded to remain anonymous expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “This is a good boost to our career and our success in the future. We will work hard to be successful and be of encouragement to the coming generation as well.”
This noteworthy initiative underscores the enduring commitment of the ’83 set to the welfare and educational advancement of their alma mater.
