The Executive Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, was present during the operation, highlighting the seriousness with which human trafficking is taken.
It’s crucial to address the spread of misleading information. Some have erroneously labelled the incident as a kidnapping or ritualistic act.
These rumors are unfounded and can be detrimental. Let’s be clear: this operation targeted human traffickers, not kidnappers or ritualists.
The LCDA speaking on the incident in a statement stated:
”It has been brought to our attention that there are malicious individuals spreading false rumors about the nature of the apprehended individuals, labeling them as kidnappers and ritualists.
“This misinformation is baseless and harmful. It is essential to clarify that the site was targeted at human traffickers, not kidnappers or ritualists”
At least 45 individuals, including children from neighboring African countries, were rescued from a duplex on Omola Road.
Initial reports erroneously described them as kidnap victims. However, investigations revealed a human trafficking operation.
The victims, primarily from Cameroon and Gabon, were lured by false promises of employment opportunities in Nigeria.
They were deceived by a job scam ring and paid significant sums, some even selling their belongings, to secure the promised jobs.
Upon arrival, they were confined to the duplex with restricted movement.
