Eko Hot Blog reports that the historic and culturally rich Ojude Oba festival in Epe was celebrated with grandeur and enthusiasm in the presence of the Olu Epe of Epe Kingdom, Ọba Shefiu Ọlatunji Adéwálé.
The event, which drew crowds from far and wide, was marked by vibrant displays of traditional attire, music, and dance, reflecting the rich heritage of the Epe Kingdom.
Chief Imam Sadalla Abiola Abdul Rahman, in his address, highlighted the profound significance of the Ojude Oba festival.
“This festival is a testament to our unity and cultural pride,” he remarked.
“Every Ramadan, after the Eid ground prayers, we traditionally visit the king’s house to greet him.
“However, the Sallah celebration is unique. After the Eid prayers, families rush home to prepare their festive meals, particularly the ceremonial ram.
“On the second day, we share the meat among ourselves, fostering a spirit of community and generosity.
“It is on the third day that we all gather to pay our respects to our king, reinforcing our bond with our traditions and leadership.”
Imam Rahman further emphasized the themes of love and compassion that underpin the festival.
“Ojude Oba is more than just a cultural celebration; it is a time to express love and compassion,” the cleric stated.
“It is a period when we come together, transcending individual differences, to celebrate our shared identity and values.
“This festival reminds us of the importance of unity, respect, and mutual support within our community.
“By sharing our blessings and showing kindness to one another, we strengthen the fabric of our society.”
The festival also featured a parade of different age groups, known as “Regberegbe”.
Each displayed their unique attires and performances, adding to the festival’s colorful spectacle.
Various groups and associations presented gifts to Ọba Adéwálé, reaffirming their loyalty and respect for the monarch.
In his response, the Olu Epe expressed his gratitude to his subjects for their unwavering support and dedication to preserving the kingdom’s cultural heritage.
He encouraged everyone to continue to live in harmony and uphold the values of love and compassion, which are central to their community’s ethos.
The Ojude Oba festival stands as a remarkable event that not only honours the king but also brings together the people of Epe Kingdom in a celebration of their rich traditions and collective spirit.
It is a powerful reminder of the enduring significance of cultural festivals in fostering unity and promoting social cohesion.
