It is usually celebrated within one month of a new Islamic calendar year.

The festival also commemorates the grand entry of Oba Kosoko in 1851 when he came with his followers to Epe.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Epe Kayokayo Festival Planning Committee has called on Epe indigenes to donate, sponsor, and place ads for the next edition of the event.
The committee’s Coordinator, Otunba TJ Abass, made the call in a statement on Saturday.

Otunba Abass, who appreciated the support the planning committee received during the 2022 Kayokayo festival, announced that the 2023 edition will hold between July 29th and August 5th, 2023.
“It is on this note that we feel the prodding conviction to begin the process of piecing together the pertinent elements that will allow us to take to make this year’s edition a huge success,” the committee’s coordinator said.
He assured Epe indigenes that this year’s festival edition “will not be divorced from the fundamental philosophy of the Kayokayo.”
“Once again, in the spirit of the altruism which Kayokayo represents, we will not deviate from our communal funding system, which recorded tremendous success last year,” Otunba Abass said.
“As a trusted partner, we are appealing to you once more to spare as we continue our unyielding fight to place our beloved community on a global pedestal through our rich cultural heritage.”
Here are the Kayokayo festival’s three major areas of funding:
1. Donations:
A minimum donation of 20,0000 Naira will make a whole lot of difference.
2. Sponsorship package:
You can also choose to sponsor any of the events. Details of the events will be sent out as soon as possible.
3. Placement of Ads:
You can also advertise your business in the event brochure.
The planning committee coordinator also stated that all donations must be remitted to the Epe Kayokayo Festival account; Epe Kayokayo Festival Committee (Access Bank), Account Number: 0777126479.
