  • The cash support was aimed at relieving the current economic hardship in the country.
  • The elders’ empowerment programme followed other welfare initiatives that targeted vulnerable residents of Epe in recent months.
  • The LG chairman recently committed to more programmes that would add value to people’s lives.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has offered cash support to elderly women in the area.

The cash support was part of the LG’s elders’ empowerment programme.

According to a terse statement issued by the Epe LG press office on Thursday, the programme held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, putting smiles on the faces of beneficiaries.

“The initiative is to relieve them [beneficiaries] from the current economic hardship in the country,” the statement reads in part.

The cash empowerment programme is part of a long list of economic relief initiatives that Hon. Animashaun has led in recent months.

In August, she introduced the Epe Food Bank Initiative which provided essential food resources to the Epe community.

The initiative witnessed the distribution of foodstuff across the 8 wards that make up the area as palliative to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

The Epe LG chairman said the food bank programme was born out of her commitment to humanity and that no one in the area should go to bed without food in their stomach.

Following the resumption of primary and secondary school students in September, she donated academic materials and furniture, including beds and blackboards, to schools.

Students of Epe Grammar School were presented with the first set of over 50 bunk beds with more being constructed.

Hon. Animashaun also replaced all the blackboards in Army Children’s Primary School with standard white marker boards and donated academic materials, including math-sets and text books to all upland and riverine public primary schools in Epe LG.

In November 2023, in recognition of the Epe LG chairman’s efforts to cater to the welfare of residents, the LG won the award for the Best Performing LG in Epe Division at the Epe Division Community Annual Awards (EDCAA) organised by the Concerned NationBuilders Initiative (CNI).

Receiving the award at an event on December 7, 2023, Princess Animashaun said she was humbled by the recognition as her administration has operated on three core values: Impact, Progress, and Development.

She noted that, while these words meant a lot of things to different people, they are all about the greater good.

The Epe LG boss noted that her tenure has seen the construction of roads, drainages, schools, market complexes, and other infrastructural projects.

Hon. Animashaun reiterated her commitment to focusing on only things that add value to the lives of people and empower them.

“In the course of my tenure, we have constructed roads and drainages, we have built schools, we have built multi-purpose market complexes, we have improved on infrastructure that were abandoned and/or bad shape,” she said.

“It is easy to look at these things you can see with your physical eyes and count with your fingers as the only measure of progress, impact or development.

“Personally, I am more concerned and focused on how this reflects in the lives of people. How I am able to add value to every individual I come across, empower and develop human capital.

“The value added to an individual’s life are the things that outlive any administration or personal biases. Because when you develop the people, you sustain a nation.”
