Ekohotblog reports that the Epe Local Government, led by Executive Chairman Hon. (Princess) Surah Animashaun, is organizing a free health screening for Epe residents to curb the spread of tuberculosis (TB).
The event is scheduled for November 6 and 7, 2024, at the Epe Local Government Secretariat.
Residents will receive free services, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, chest X-rays, and TB screenings. These health checks aim to aid early TB detection and educate the public on prevention.
Speaking about the initiative, Hon. Animashaun said, “Tuberculosis is a disease we can prevent and cure, yet it still harms many people in Africa. By providing these free health checks, we’re taking a bold step toward protecting our community while spreading awareness among the public.”
TB remains a significant global health issue, particularly in Africa, where more than a third of TB deaths occur. Some cases are challenging to treat due to drug resistance.
The Epe Local Government’s screening exercise aims to facilitate early detection and control of TB.
Recently, Lagos State First Lady Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu appointed Hon. Animashaun as a TB Ambassador, recognizing her efforts in combating TB.
“Local leaders like Hon. Animashaun play a vital role in our fight against TB. Screening and awareness are powerful tools in preventing the spread of this disease,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu remarked.
Health workers at the event encouraged all residents to participate. “This is a great opportunity for people to learn about TB and check their health for free,” one health worker said. “The sooner we detect TB, the easier it is to treat and prevent its spread.”
