Epe NYCN Ramadan Lecture: Cleric Slams Internet Fraudsters, Says Drug Abuse and Rape are Evil.

The former DEAN Student Affairs of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija Epe, Lagos State, has decried man’s inhumanity to man by internet fraudsters popularly called “Yahoo-yahoo”, as cruel and a grave sin in the sights of Almighty Allah.

Speaking to a gathering of youths on the topic: ” The Islamic Perspective of Drug Abuse, Internet Fraud and Rape; Implications for Youth Development”, in Epe on Friday 7th May 2021 at Epe Local Government Council Chambers, the newly appointed Deputy Provost of MOCPED likened the possession of another man’s property by the youths to a subscriber who has deposited a huge sum of money into his bank account only to discover that all his savings are gone. Such a situation, he said, was capable of causing mental derangement and by extension, death.

The reason youths engage in Internet fraud amongst many other reasons, he said, includes unemployment, corruption, oppression from peers and poverty. The Islamic perspective on fraudulent possession of properties was discussed further using Suratul An-Nisa, Quran 4 vs 29 as reference. The implications, he said, includes administrative penalty, prosecution, being declared wanted and living a fake life.

On drug abuse, Dr Shittu revealed to the gathering that drugs are being abused to escape depression, social anxiety, stress-related disorderliness, peer pressure, self-medication, performance improvement at work.

The Islamic perspective was referenced in Suratul Baqarah, Quran chapter 2 vs 219. He referenced how a devout worshiper was tempted by a Shaytan to take alcohol to enhance him to perform 100 rakas. After he obliged, he got drunk, raped and impregnated a lady whom he later murdered to conceal his evil acts.

This singular act, he said got the devout worshipper to sin on 3 different counts namely, taking alcohol, rape and murder. While stating the implications for youths which include aggressiveness, brain damage, loss of self-control, violent behaviour, meaningless life, health disorder and hallucination, he pleaded with young people to never engage in such immoral acts.

Ekohotblog gathered that Dr Shittu referred to the recent controversy trailing popular Yoruba Actor, BabaIjesha in discussing the concept of rape. He noted that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) had created humans with reproductive organs which when put to use with their spouses, will be rewarded. He wondered why men have to sin with their reproductive organ and as such admonished the youths to refrain from rape as it isn’t rewarding. To drive home his point, he went on to disclose the features of the inhabitants of paradise as those who abstain from fornication which is a precedence to rape. Fear of public places, unwanted pregnancy, social stigma and abandonment, problems with intimacy and trust issues and the victim’s development of hatred for men are the dangerous consequences of rape.
