Epe Ogunmodede Club – Philanthropy When It Matters Most
As much as the Coronavirus pandemic is an exacting devastating impact on humanity, it has also become a lesson pad of sorts for mortal men.
Beyond lip service, it has provided a platform of test for the level of human kindness domiciled in the inside of us, just as it has become a measure, the extent of sincerity in the corporate social responsibility principles being touted by corporate organizations and entities in our society.
An Organisation that easily comes to mind here, is Epe Ogunmodede Club, not for anything else but the big role it is playing and the great sacrifice it is incurring just to make the society a better place generally, and in also reaching out to the vulnerable at this trying time
Epe Ogunmodede Club is a household name with the membership of indigenous Epe people. Beginning from its inception in 1972, it has been at the forefront of making the society a better place
It is an organization that that’s always been on the vanguard of rendering help and support wherever the need had presented itself. People’s welfare is indeed in its DNA.
These are what it demonstrates on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, when it mobilized its entire membership to donate relief items running into millions of naira to help the underprivileged in the community. In addition to the relief materials, cash of donations of 5000.00 Naira running into Millions were also donated to more than 600 ( Six Hundred) people of Epe.
In an exclusive interview with Eko Hot Blog, the Chairman of the committee,
Dr Nosiru Onibon said that the goal of the outreach was to extend a hand of compassion to the struggling ones in the community as a way of letting them know how much they are cared for.
“It is incumbent upon us as responsible and responsive citizens to complement the efforts of the Government to make lives more meaningful to the less fortunate ones in the society, he said.
Alhaji Saliu Okulu used the opportunity to enjoin the Epe people to obey the Lagos State Directive in the wake of the Corona Virus.
“The lockdown is a precautionary step taken by the Government, in the best interest of Lagosians to curb the spread of the virus, Okulu said.
Alhaji Wasiu Bello said,” there is nothing more gratifying than seeing the joy and smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries. It gives one a sense of joy and fulfilment,” he concluded.
Building on that, Alhaji Kayode Abass advised the residents to observe the social distancing rule as directed by the State Government.
It was obvious, from the prayers and well wishes of the beneficiaries that the club succeeded in touching them where it mattered most. Wonder, they showered prayers and well wishes on the club.
The whole event brought out the beauty in the saying: “The difference between a helping hand and an outstretched palm is the twist of the wrist”
