Eko Hot Blog reports that elders in Epe, Lagos State, are guaranteed to spend their Eid-el-Kabir celebration in joy and happiness, thanks to the benevolent cash gifts from Rep. Wale Raji, the lawmaker representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The Eid-el-Kabir festival, celebrated by the Muslim faithful across, Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria, and the globe, will hold on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
In anticipation of the festival, Rep. Raji took steps to ensure that Epe’s senior citizens are not left out of the joy that comes with the season.
Eko Hot Blog followed his aides as they went from house to house to donate N10,000 cash gifts to elders under the lawmaker’s Elders Welfare Scheme, a long-standing programme that regularly provides relief to senior citizens in the constituency.
Our correspondents spoke to various beneficiaries of the cash gifts who joyfully showered prayers on Rep. Raji.
“The journey he will go and not come back, God will protect him from embarking on it,” an elderly man prayed in an interview with Eko Hot Blog.
An elderly woman thanked the lawmaker for his generosity and profusely prayed for him.
“Help me thank Wale Raji. I’m so grateful. By God’s grace, I will not cry over him and his family,” she prayed.
This is not the first time Rep. Raji will shower cash gifts on struggling elders in Epe.
The lawmaker uses his Elders Welfare Scheme to give monthly cash allowances to senior citizens in his constituency. Some elders are paid as much as N10,000 monthly to sustain and relieve them.
In April, shortly after winning an unprecedented third term to the House of Representatives, Rep. Raji paid Epe senior citizens cash allowances covering January to March.
Eko Hot Blog sighted an aged woman who received N60,000 cash as payment for three months.
The Elders Welfare Scheme is not the lawmaker’s only welfare programme.
Raji launched the Elders Welfare Scheme and the Grassroots Trader Support (Cash Grant) Scheme in November 2020.
He selected 1,100 grassroots traders across all wards in Epe as the first beneficiaries of cash grants of N25,000.
Also, 100 people, aged 70 years and above, who lacked means of livelihood or financial support, were chosen across all wards in Epe Federal Constituency to receive a constant monthly stipend of N10,000.
In September 2022, the lawmaker presented a total of N64 million cash grant to about 1,280 women under the 32 Asiwaju Progressive Women Cooperative Thrift & Credit Societies in the Epe Federal Constituency. The women were picked from all parts of Epe.
In recognition of Rep. Raji’s passion for welfare programmes, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, recently appointed him as the Chairman of the 10th House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Welfare.
