Teachers in Epe have expressed deep sorrow and frustration after the untimely death of one of their colleagues, Mr. Adeyeye, who lost his life in a road accident while returning from an audit exercise in Lagos.

Ekohotblog reports that the incident, which has sparked outrage among educators in the area, this underscoring the challenges and risks teachers face in the line of duty.

During a condolence visit by the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education, Hon. Tolani Balogun, to Mr. Adeyeye’s family, emotions ran high as several teachers voiced their grievances about the working conditions and treatment of educators by the government.

“We are not robots! Teachers deserve humane treatment and proper planning for exercises like audits.

How can a teacher be expected to travel such long distances without adequate logistics and safety measures?” , a senior teacher in Epe.

Another teacher, echoed her colleague’s sentiments. “This could have been avoided. We are always at the mercy of authorities who neglect our welfare.

Mr. Adeyeye’s death should not be in vain. Let this be a wake-up call to prioritize teachers’ safety and dignity,” she said with tears in her eyes.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Epe has called for immediate reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future.

“The death of Mr. Adeyeye is a tragic loss to our community and a stark reminder of the dangers we face daily.

We demand that the Ministry of Education provide proper logistics and ensure better planning for such exercises,” stated the NUT Chairman, Mr.Sanni

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Hon. Tolani Balogun, while offering condolences to the bereaved family, assured the teachers that their grievances would be addressed.

“The Ministry will take immediate steps to review the logistics of audit exercises and other teacher-related activities.

Mr. Adeyeye’s sacrifice will not be forgotten,” he said.

Teachers in Epe have called on the NUT to honour Mr. Adeyeye posthumously and also appealed to them to intensify efforts to engage the Ministry of Education on improving the welfare and safety of educators.
