The catchphrase, “Not all heroes wear capes,” can best describe the personality of the popular “moin-moin” seller in Epe, Mrs Akintoye, who survived a devastating ploy not only to blackmail her personality but to also cripple her close to three decades business by her traducers and envious peddlers of the crab mentality.

The serene town of Epe, on Tuesday 11th October 2022 woke up to a chaotic atmosphere as multitudes of spectators stormed the popular “Iya oni moin-moin” shop to catch a glimpse of the latest mystery in the town – the alleged confession to witchcraft and use of diabolical means to attract customers to make huge sales.

Unfortunately, the incident coincided with the day strategically set aside to celebrate the girl-child across the globe but the case was different in Epe as a successful girl-child who had graduated into womanhood was maligned by unknown rumour mongers.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the woman in question was defended by her benefactors who testified to her philanthropic heroics which are realistic in her immediate environment just as several fictional characters created in movies.

Another swift move that quelled the commotion from further escalation was her timely arrival at the scene where she was seen addressing all manner of inquisitive residents, telling them that she neither made any confession to witchcraft nor died as rumoured. Later on, a team of Policemen were deployed to manage the situation.

Ekohotblog reports that Iya moin-moin’s benefactors and well-wishers refuted the rumours and even ate the “moin-moin” in solidarity and confirmation of the tasty local delicacy.

In a smart damage control strategy, they thereafter drove around the town in a bus refuting on the microphone that the incident was a rumour.

According to some of the onlookers, the implication of acts of economic sabotage of this nature is its capability to greatly impede the socio-economic progression of several people who benefit from the “moin-moin” production food chain as the numerous customers amassed over the years would jettison their patronage. One can then imagine the psychological effects.

A female ageing resident at the scene, name withheld, disclosed that the woman’s business and place of residence was lucky that the scenario did not degenerate into an unwanted crisis as mischief makers could have hijacked the scene to perpetrate nefarious acts.

This was because the alarming number of onlookers who caused some level of discomfort to travellers and other road users at the axis led to a brief traffic logjam.

She added that in the Yoruba parlance, it is believed that diabolic means are traditional ways of amassing wealth through fast sales of goods and services, adding that several incidents of this nature have taken place in various communities across Yoruba land and beyond whereby businesses collapse after their owners pass on due to their confession to witchcraft but such wasn’t the case of Mrs Akintoye.
