Ekohotblog reports that as part of the FEDSA National Leadership Conference 2024, young people in Epe came together to clean up the famous Epe Fish Sculpture Garden.
This effort was aimed at protecting the landmark and promoting care for the environment.
The Epe Fish Sculpture Garden is a well-known symbol of the community’s history, culture, and unity.
By cleaning the site, the youths showed their commitment to preserving the heritage of Epe while taking action to keep the environment clean.
Speaking during the event, Comrade Ogunbawo Ibrahim, the State Treasurer of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), praised the young people for their leadership.
“This clean-up shows that leadership is not just about talking but taking action. You are protecting our culture and inspiring others to do the same,” he said.
Ambassador Rahmon Saheed, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament, also commended the youths.
“The Fish Sculpture Garden is more than just a monument; it tells the story of our people. Today, you have taken a bold step to ensure it remains beautiful for generations to come,” he said.
Hon. Mahruf Odunare, representing Epe Constituency 1 at the Lagos State Youth Parliament, encouraged others to follow the example set by the group.
“This effort shows how much we care for our community. It’s a reminder that we all have a role to play in keeping our environment clean and safe,” he said.
The clean-up had a large turnout of students and young leaders, who worked together with great enthusiasm.
One of the volunteers, Sodiq, shared his thoughts. “I’m proud to be part of this. It’s a chance to show that we care about our community and our heritage,” he said.
A FEDSA representative thanked everyone who joined the event.
“Today’s activity shows the power of unity. Together, we’re protecting our identity and making Epe better,” the spokesperson said.
