The Nigerian forward remains eager to join the French giants, but the potential move is currently on hold due to ongoing negotiations between the two clubs. Despite having reached a verbal agreement, the transfer to Paris seems increasingly unlikely, opening the door for other interested clubs.
Lookman was notably left out of Atalanta’s squad for their Serie A match against Torino on Sunday, the second consecutive game he’s been omitted from, fueling further speculation about his future.
According to Express Sports, Arsenal, who have been closely monitoring the situation, are hoping to secure a late deal for Lookman, who is valued at around £51 million. The fact that Lookman shares the same agency as Kai Havertz could give the Gunners an edge in the transfer race.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 after successful loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City. He has since made a significant impact in Serie A, scoring 24 goals in 62 appearances.
The forward became a fan favorite in Bergamo after his hat-trick secured Atalanta’s victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final on May 22 at Dublin Arena. This marked Atalanta’s first European trophy and Lookman’s first career hat-trick, making him the first player to score a hat-trick in a one-legged European final since Pierino Prati in 1969.
