Manchester City’s remarkable 32-match unbeaten Premier League streak ended in a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, dropping the English champions behind Liverpool in the title race.

The Cherries struck twice through Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson on either side of halftime, before Josko Gvardiol’s late header gave City a glimmer of hope.

Pep Guardiola’s side, struggling with several injuries, had also suffered a midweek League Cup loss to Tottenham, marking their first defeat of the season across all competitions. Despite Guardiola’s pre-match admission that many players were fighting through injuries, Bournemouth, fresh off a win over Arsenal, added to City’s woes.

Semenyo capitalized on Milos Kerkez’s cross to open the scoring in the ninth minute, and Evanilson doubled Bournemouth’s lead just after the hour with another assist from Kerkez. Gvardiol responded with a powerful header from Ilkay Gundogan’s cross in the 82nd minute, but Erling Haaland missed a crucial chance in stoppage time, striking the post from close range.

The loss leaves City two points behind Liverpool, who came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield. Arsenal also dropped points with a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle, softening the impact of City’s first league loss since December.
