Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has shared his predictions for the Premier League fixtures scheduled for Boxing Day and Friday.
Speaking with Paddy Power, Lawrenson provided his expert analysis on the games, forecasting a mix of outcomes as top teams and underdogs clash.
“Boxing Day Special: Newcastle and Spurs to Suffer Defeats, Lawrenson Forecasts”
One of the standout matches on Boxing Day will see defending champions Manchester City take on Everton at the Etihad Stadium. Despite City’s strong form and dominance at home, Lawrenson predicts a surprising stalemate, with the match ending 1-1.
This would be a major result for Everton, who are battling to improve their season under new management.
In another eagerly anticipated Boxing Day clash, Chelsea will host Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea, who have shown flashes of brilliance in recent matches, are tipped to edge out their London rivals with a 2-1 victory.
Lawrenson believes Chelsea’s attacking talent will make the difference, though Fulham’s resilience cannot be underestimated.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United will face a tough test against Aston Villa at St. James’ Park. Lawrenson has predicted a 2-1 victory for Villa, highlighting their recent good form and ability to deliver in high-pressure games.
At the City Ground, Nottingham Forest are expected to secure a solid 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, who have struggled for consistency.
Lawrenson sees this as an opportunity for Forest to capitalize on Spurs’ defensive frailties and claim a vital three points.
Elsewhere, Southampton will host West Ham in what is expected to be a closely fought contest.
Lawrenson predicts a 2-1 victory for West Ham, citing their more balanced squad and knack for grinding out results.
In the Midlands, Wolves will welcome Manchester United to Molineux. Lawrenson foresees a 2-1 triumph for United, who are pushing to solidify their place in the top four. United’s attacking prowess and tactical discipline should prove too much for Wolves.
Lawrenson has also backed Liverpool to deliver a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City at Anfield.
The Reds’ firepower in attack is expected to overwhelm Leicester’s shaky defense.
Other notable predictions include Brighton defeating Brentford 2-0 at the Amex Stadium and league leaders Arsenal cruising to a 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town at the Emirates.
Finally, Bournemouth are tipped to edge out Crystal Palace 2-1 in what promises to be a tightly contested game at the Vitality Stadium.
If Lawrenson’s predictions hold true, Boxing Day and Friday promise thrilling action and potentially game-changing results in the Premier League.
