EPL: Liverpool, Arsenal Drop Points As Newcastle Thrash Leicester

Published

Diogo Jota salvaged a point for Liverpool as the Premier League leaders fought back from Andy Robertson’s early red card to secure a 2-2 draw with Fulham. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s title hopes took a hit with a goalless draw against Everton on Saturday.

With only four minutes remaining at Anfield, Liverpool seemed on the brink of suffering just their second defeat in 15 league games this season.

Jota found the equaliser, extending the Reds’ unbeaten streak across all competitions to 19 matches since a loss to Nottingham Forest in September.

Having had last weekend’s Merseyside derby at Everton postponed due to severe weather, Liverpool are now without a win in their last two league outings, following a 3-3 draw at Newcastle.

Liverpool remain five points clear at the top of the table, with second-placed Chelsea able to narrow the gap with a win against Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Reds were stunned early when Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira’s volley from Antonee Robinson’s cross deflected in off Robertson in the 11th minute.

Liverpool suffered further frustration in the 17th minute when Robertson was sent off for a professional foul on Harry Wilson. Despite the setback, Liverpool responded strongly, with Cody Gakpo equalising just after halftime with a header from Mohamed Salah’s cross.

Gakpo’s ninth goal of the season set the stage for a period of intense Liverpool pressure.

But Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz delivered a sucker punch as he bundled over the line from Robinson’s cross in the 76th minute.

That set the stage for a dramatic finale as Jota levelled in the 86th minute with a cool finish past Bernd Leno from the edge of the area.
