EPL: Man City Down To 13 Players After New Injuries – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has expressed concern that Manchester City now have “13 players” available and are “in trouble” after sustaining further injuries in Wednesday’s League Cup loss to Tottenham.

City, already missing six first-team players, saw defender Manuel Akanji sidelined with a calf injury during the warm-up.

Forward Savinho was later stretchered off in the 63rd minute after what appeared to be an ankle injury.

Guardiola also noted that defender Ruben Dias, who was subbed off at half-time, is “struggling” at times.

“We have 13 players, we are in real difficulties,” Guardiola said.

“The guys that play, they finish most of them with problems and we’ll see how they recover.

“I think we are in trouble, because in nine years we’ve never been in the situation with so many injuries.

“The players make a step forward, more together than ever, and we will try to do this week in this short time of recovery.”

Defensive midfielder Rodri has been ruled out for the season following an ACL tear he sustained in September.

Attacking midfielder Oscar Bobb is also sidelined long-term with a fractured leg suffered in August. Guardiola initially estimated a “three or four months” recovery for Bobb.

Kevin De Bruyne, who missed five months of last season after surgery, is now out with a thigh injury. Although he was first expected to return soon, Guardiola recently admitted he “didn’t know” when De Bruyne would be fit.

Full-back Kyle Walker is dealing with a knee injury, with no timeline for his comeback. Meanwhile, forwards Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish have been absent from recent matches due to injuries, with Guardiola noting that Doku is unlikely to be available before the November international break.

Before Wednesday’s game, Guardiola had fielded only seven substitutes against Southampton and last week against Sparta Prague, even including two goalkeepers on the bench for the latter fixture.

“Tomorrow we have two goalkeepers and Erling Haaland in the training session,” Guardiola said after the Tottenham loss.

“The rest, we don’t have anything else.”
