This latest setback puts United already six points behind Manchester City and Liverpool, both of whom have won their opening three games of the season.
Despite the club spending over £205 million on new signings during the summer transfer window to close the gap after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Fernandes admits that United are still not equipped to challenge for the title and insists that a top-four finish is the “minimum” goal for the team.
‘We don’t have to look at the results. What I said and the renewal was a long-term thing,’ Fernandes told DAZN.
