The 27-year-old had previously been excluded from manager Ruben Amorim’s squad for four matches, initially over concerns about his training performance and attitude toward teammates.

Rashford returned to the lineup for the December 30 home defeat to Newcastle but remained on the bench as United endured a fourth consecutive loss and a third straight match without scoring.

Meanwhile, Amorim confirmed that the club would activate an option to extend former captain Harry Maguire’s contract until 2026. However, he emphasized that Maguire “needs to improve as a leader because we are starving for leaders on the pitch.”

Napoli, contenders for the Serie A title, have reportedly shown interest in Rashford, with Manchester United open to a loan deal if the striker’s wages, exceeding £300,000 per week, are fully covered.

United, currently 14th in the Premier League table, will welcome back Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte from suspension for the Anfield fixture.

However, Amorim has ruled out Rashford’s inclusion in the squad.

“At the moment he is ill,” said Amorim. “He is not training and this week he is out.”

Asked about Rashford’s position within the club, he added: “It’s the same situation. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player and then I make a selection.”
