EPL: Schar’s Late Strike Denies Liverpool Win Against Newcastle
Fabian Schar salvaged a dramatic late equalizer for Newcastle United as they earned a well-deserved 3-3 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at St. James’ Park.
The Reds, who came into the match on the back of a statement victory over defending champions Manchester City, were poised to extend their nine-point lead at the top of the table after Mohamed Salah’s late double overturned a Newcastle lead.

However, Schar’s volley from a free-kick, capitalizing on a missed claim by goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, secured a point for the Magpies in the dying moments.
Newcastle set the tone early with Jacob Murphy hitting the post, and Alexander Isak igniting the home crowd with a stunning long-range strike to put his side ahead.
Anthony Gordon nearly doubled the lead moments later after a defensive lapse by Joe Gomez, but Kelleher’s reflexes kept Liverpool in the game.
Curtis Jones restored parity early in the second half with a precise first-time finish from Salah’s cross, but Gordon put Newcastle back in front with a clever cut inside and a shot that eluded Kelleher.
Liverpool, determined to maintain their momentum at the summit, responded with Salah’s brilliance.
The Egyptian forward first equalized with a deft scoop and then appeared to seal victory with a composed finish in the 83rd minute.
