The Epe Professional Women Association, EPWA, will on Thursday, November 28th, hold its first annual women conference at the Epe Campus of Lagos State University, LASU.
The conference themed “Role of Women in Community Development,” has been designed to help further the cause of underprivileged women and girls in the society.
President of the association, Mrs Funke Moore, revealed that the conference aimed at exposing the fact that Epe Division is underdeveloped, educationally disadvantaged, and deprived on many fronts.
“EPWA believes that women can contribute a lot in reversing this trend. The conference will call the attention of government and NGOs to the need to educate women and empower them through vocational training, so they are well-equipped to carry out their central role in society.
“Women are the primary caretakers of children and elders, first teachers for children and sometimes breadwinner for the family. A woman who is educated and gainfully employed will contribute in no small measure to the growth of her family,” she said.
The conference will also identify other factors militating against women’s economic empowerment and poverty reduction.
She assured that the Association would continue to act as a pressure group to ensure that women reach their full potentials.
