By Babatunde Kaka

Eredo local council development area, Honourable Adeniyi Saliu, has commended Lagos state government over the disbursement cash to residents of the council.

Ekohotblog had reported how State Government under the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment and Eredo LCDA together with Lagos State Operations Coordinating Unit (LASOCU) held a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Exercise to beneficiaries in the LCDA. The event which held on Wednesday, January 6th 2020, at LG Primary School Igbooye, Epe.

Speaking at the event, Adeniyi acknowledged the invaluable supports and the empathetic disposition  Sanwo-Olu, and the unalloyed commitment of the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, in facilitating the programme for the benefit of the good people of Eredo LCDA. He noted that the programme has catered for more than 350 beneficiaries in the LCDA

” On behalf of all of us, we welcome our Hon. Commissioner to Eredo LCDA, we thank you and we thank the Governor for this initiative. I just asked our people if they could recall if this is the third phase we’ve done in a row. This has catered for over 350 people in Eredo LCDA constantly. What this has done to our people is to help them maintain sustainability and it is giving them regular income on a bi-monthly basis, which has in a way catered for hunger, it has helped them to feed their families and for some of them, it has even helped them to set up small businesses that they could use to manage and fend for themselves. Thank you very much “, he said.

Saliu also averred that the programme was a milestone achievement in the history of governance in Lagos State. He, however, appealed to the people to visit the Budget Department of Eredo LCDA to get captured since the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment has revealed that the programme has the capacity to capture more beneficiaries.

” To our people, let’s take this very seriously, what the Government has done is noble, it is unprecedented in the history of governance in Lagos state. We must thank Governor Sanwoolu and everyone that has been a party to this programme.

He admonished the people to seize the moment when opportunity like the cash transfer  presents itself and maximise it

“The commissioner has also informed us that this is not the end, after this event, those who have not been captured should take the opportunity to visit the department of budget at the council secretariat for further registration. Those of us at the helms of affairs in the Local Council are giving our commitment that we are ready to continue to enrol more.

” She has also informed me that other than those that we have been paying since the last three months, there is a new list that has just been released which has captured new people. So it means that we are going to extend our network to cover more people and the government will live to their responsibility, commitment and continue to pay you on a bi-monthly basis “, he said.

Saliu revealed that the intention of both the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria was to alleviate poverty.

” The intention of government, the Lagos State and Federal Government, in bringing about this programme is to alleviate poverty and support our people to make ends meet.

” As you are aware, this payment is a bi-monthly payment which will span six times in a year. What government believes was that whatever it is, no matter the situation people are going through, it should be able to add up to something.
It is an intervention programme by the government to bring down the level of poverty and ensure that at least people can feed themselves. We are grateful to government, you can see the reaction of the people, you can see the way they have turned out en masse to support this programme “, he said.

He admonished beneficiaries to utilise the money judiciously for either feeding or business till the next payment comes. He believes solely when judiciously utilised, the multiplier effect would sustain the people over a period.

He also pledged the commitment of his administration to continue to support various opportunities of this kind and several government efforts to lift the good people of Eredo LCDA out of poverty.
