Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eredo local council development area has expressed their unequivocal support for the re-election bid of honourable Adeniyi Saliu as chairman of the municipal.
The party leader endorsed Saliu during the official flag-off campaign for his second term bid that took place Noforija kingdom in Eredo LCDA.
The electioneering was graced by Local Council Officials, Obas, Chiefs, party leaders, youth leaders, security agencies, religious organisations, tradesmen and artisans, market men and women amongst others.
Speaking while addressing the gathering, Hon Adeniyi Saliu, who was overwhelmed by the enormous turnout of his staunch supporters, disclosed that he would not take their support for granted.
He also boasted of having the backing of the party elders, which he said was enough response and signal to his antagonists. He however urged his supporters to refrain from any act that could truncate the peaceful conduct of the primary election. “Respond with your votes,” he stated.
Speaking in an interview with Ekohotblog, Hon Adeniyi Saliu
“I feel Slater and overwhelmed that my people, after four years still hold me in high esteem, they still love me this much, I still enjoy this massive support from them and it is to challenge me to do more. I’m sure with the kind of opportunity we have enjoyed here today, we will make sure we reach out to everybody in terms of infrastructure, education, healthcare, culture and tourism and everything that will touch human lives in all aspects.
He noted that the emergence of 9 aspirants across the LCDA is a remarkable feat capable of deepening democracy. He said it is an indication that the LCDA has a robust party platform that has guaranteed freedom to express their aspiration.
” That a lot of people came out to contest is an indication that the government is doing and people think that the level we’ve taken governance has become attractive for a lot of people to come out to contest. I thank God that the people are appreciative of what we’ve done in the last four years and despite the number of aspirants, they’ve given us support en masse to make sure there is no contest”, he averred.
Hon Saliu further assured residents of their safety and security as they prepare to express their freedom to choose during the primary election as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
He, therefore, thanked the leaders across the board in the LCDA for their backing whose thinking, he said, is in tune with the aspirations of the common man on the street. He also disclosed that aspirants who will lose out in the race for the top mob would be embraced.
“They’ve expressed it on their (people) behalf, that we’ve done very well and because of that, we’re deserving of another 4 years.
Our party doesn’t have losers, we have contestants and we’re one family. Those who won’t make it on Saturday are still in the family. After, we’re going to present a united front in the general elections. Everybody is part of the party and a stakeholder,” he promised.
Alhaja Ismail Airat representing the Iyaloja-General of the LCDA, Olu Ayan of Odo-Ayan, Mr Badejo Wakeel CDC Vice Chairman, the LGA Woman leader and others took turns to endorse Hon Adeniyi Saliu.
Earlier, the apex leader in the LCDA, Hon Wasiu Odeyemi, WASTAB, who boasted of his political dexterity in the five wards, revealed that the choice of the Chairman for the second term was in line with the laid down power rotation policy adopted by his predecessors.
The rotation policy between both Pobo and Okemagba zones, he said, would not be derailed during his time. He noted that a selection without recourse to the ideals of Eredo greats is capable of causing rancour in the LCDA.
He didn’t shy away from the fact that the choice of Hon Adeniyi Saliu for the second term is based on his creditable performance and service delivery to the people. “We’ve decided to endorse Saliu for the second term,” he said while presenting him officially to the party faithful.
In his address, while speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, Oba Dr Babbatunde Ogunlaja JP, the Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija, revealed that the presence of the monarchs symbolizes entrenchment of peace and unity of purpose.
The excited monarch admitted that the presence of Hon WASTAB, whose political background is enviable, boosted his confidence, noting that the kings won’t allow some disgruntled elements to truncate the party ideals in the LCDA.
His Majesty hailed Hon Saliu for revering the royal fathers by seeking their support and consent to run for a second term compared to all the other aspirants. “We’re after the development of our communities. Security is very important during this period and anyone who suspects any strange movement or gathering should raise an alarm. Please don’t engage in jungle justice or take laws into your hands,” he stated.
Notable traditional kings who graced the event include; the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, represented by Olisa of Ilara, the Aladeshonyin of Odo-Noforija kingdom, HRM Oba Dr Ogunlaja JP, the Alade Uraka of Poka, HRM Oba Aliru Kolawole, the Adegbajo of Odogbawojo, Hrm Oba Ogunnukan and other chiefs.
