Eredo LCDA Chairman, Adeniyi Soliu Decries Use Of Thugs By Politicians

Eredo local council development area chairman, Honourable Adeniyi Soliu has called on politicians and policy makers to put in place programmes and initiatives that will tackle the growing menace of social vices and address the scourge of youth restiveness and thuggery.

 

Soliu made the call at the Rotary Club Investiture and Fund Raiser Ceremony held in Epe at the Noforija Town Hall on Saturday, December 12th, 2020.

He was presented with an award of excellence by the club.

The district Governor ably represented by the Assistant District Governor, Rotarian Wunmi Agbaje, while presenting the award to the chairman, described him as a personality whose altruistic concern for the growth, development and progress of his people are in tandem with the principles of Rotary Club.

Rotarian Wunmi Agbaje, having sought the approval of members of the club induct the chairman as a distinguished member of the Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan.

Speaking with Eko Hot Blog, Hon. Soliu expressed gratitude for being found worthy to be inducted as a Rotarian and also presented with an award of excellence. He described activities of Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan as such that is in line with the vision of any good government.

Soliu condemned the use of cults, thugs and social miscreants by politicians, saying such action is against his creed because it is not in sync with democratic ideals.

” Elated, for me, I feel highly honoured to be identified and singled out for this honour. I thank them and I give them my commitment. What rotary club has been doing all over the years is in tandem with the vision of any good government. So, I think that there is a meeting point between the Local government and the Rotary club. I appreciate their gesture “, he said.

He described the activities of cultists, touts and thugs in the community as unprofitable, restating is resolve not to patronize them but rather look at other means possible to engage, educate, rehabilitate and help them become useful to themselves and the community at large.

” It is not the future. People don’t like me for it and it is okay. And they will find out that it is not the way to go. You can’t have a society where almost half of the youths belong to cults, It is not going to work. Where half of the youths are thugs, it is not going to work. You see what people and politicians fail to realise is that all these people making noise about are not registered to vote. They don’t carry cards of any political party, they don’t register with INEC and on the day of the election, they don’t even vote. So that population electorally does not count.

” Now, what we need to do is to help them and bring them to the mainstream, rehabilitate them so that they can be useful to themselves and society. So if some of the politicians continue to be afraid to take on major societal ills which is this thuggery and cultism, we are going to continue to water that menace. It won’t help us and we don’t need to fear.

We don’t need to be afraid to take a major decision on them because it does not impact our political life. They need our help, let’s try to educate them and help them become good citizens of the country “, he said.
