Eredo LCDA Chairman, Adeniyi Tasks Parents On Proper Upbringing Of Their Children

Chairman of Eredo local council development area, Hon. Adeniyi Saliu, has expressed concern over the failure of many parents and guardians to raise morally upright children with remarkable and excellent character needed to forge thriving society.

Saliu spoke while delivering a keynote address at the Rotary Club of Epe Metropolitan Investiture and Awards ceremony.

At the ceremony themed “The Role of Youths in Nation Building”, and monitored by Eko Hot Blog, Saliu bemoaned parents’ bemoaned utter negligence and dereliction of duty when it comes training youth of proper standing and commendable traits.

Saliu stressed the need for parents to inculcate spirit of selflessness and altruism in their children, noting that this will nudge the children to contribute to noble endeavor and advance the cause of humanity, a development he opined would benefit them, their families and the society at large.

He questioned why parents no longer rein in on their children as they become afraid to discipline their wards when they begin to attain puberty.

“As regard parenthood, are we raising our bosses or our children? I’m not campaigning for corporal punishment but a lot of parents do not talk to their children, once they begin to approach puberty or maturity, they become lords, they no longer account to us, this is Nigeria, not UK or US.

“Parents still neglect their children, even at the end of secondary school, parents can’t talk to them, they are afraid to approach them and they become so arrogant, so irresponsible to the society and they are not useful to themselves, to the society and even their parents “, he said.

While admonishing NGOs to play their part in rescuing the society from the myriad of problems bedevilling it, he opined that youths must be educated, take initiatives, get involved in politics, and vote during elections.

He also noted that the population of youths should be a blessingand not a curse to the nation and that youth energy should be converted to productivity. He thereby pledged the support of his government to collaborate with other stakeholders in the community to rescue the situation.

“The kind of youth needed to change this country must be educated, take initiatives, get involved in politics, vote during elections. NGOs should also intervene like CADAM at Araga by Pastor EO Adeboye which rehabilitates drug addicts.

” Pastor Tony Rapu is also another classical example of how we can change the story of a child that is lost. The population of youths in Nigeria should be a plus to us, not minus. We are the only country ointhe world with a high number of ythe outh population, yet we are still in poverty because we have not been able to successfully convert the youth energy to productivity.

“The government will always be in support, let’s see where we can find an eequilibriumIf we can’t focus on the entire country, let’s focus on Epe Division. There is a problem, you won’t identify this Local Government again if we don’t take action now “, he said.
