Hon. Monsuru underscored the crucial role of communal support during crises. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to mitigating the negative repercussions of the subsidy removal and assured the community that the program would persist until December, offering sustained relief.
The outreach effort included packs of staple foods such as rice, beans, and garri. Beyond just nourishment, these offerings symbolized a ray of hope for families enduring financial hardships due to the subsidy removal. The initiative aimed not only to address immediate concerns but also to instill a sense of solidarity within the community.
The event welcomed the esteemed presence of former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Honorable Ayo Odeyemi, who expressed his elation about the initiative. He enthusiastically commented, “I am highly excited because you can see the influx of people here, everybody enjoying and smiling, doing all sorts of things.” His participation added a touch of unity to the event, showcasing the potency of community-led endeavors in times of adversity.
Former Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Otunba Omolaja Adelaja, emphasized the importance of this outreach for rural areas where affording a meal could be a challenge. He remarked, “It’s going to go to a rural area where people cannot spend 1000 per meal. So for that singular meal, they are now giving rice, beans, and things like that. It will go a long way.” A beneficiary of the “Free Raw Food Outreach,”
Mrs. Adeola Bakare expressed her gratitude for the initiative in these challenging times. She said, “I cannot thank Eredo LCDA enough for this thoughtful gesture. With the removal of fuel subsidies, making ends meet has become incredibly tough for my family. The free raw food distribution is a lifeline for us. It’s heartwarming to know that our community leaders care about us and are taking steps to ease our burdens. This support gives us hope and reminds us that we are not alone in this struggle.”
The wife of the Eredo LCDA Chairman, Mrs. Christiana Ismail, highlighted the ongoing nature of the initiative, stating, “It’s going to be continuous for the main time for like 6 months; every month, palliatives will be given out. And it’s not just food for the month; we also have provisions for pregnant women. Once you give birth within the LCDA primary health care centers, you will receive care free of charge. Additionally, some essential delivery items will be provided to you. This holistic approach reflects our commitment to the well-being of our community members, ensuring support beyond immediate needs.”
