Russia launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine overnight, deploying missiles and drones across multiple regions. The attack resulted in successful strikes in the eastern parts of the country and near the capital, Kyiv, though officials did not specify the exact targets hit.

In the Kyiv region, debris from a downed missile struck a private home, injuring a woman, according to the local governor. Russia, however, claimed responsibility for a “combined” strike, asserting that its drones and precision weapons targeted a military airfield and a munitions production facility.

The Ukrainian air force detailed the scale of the assault, reporting that Russia launched 21 missiles of various types and 40 drones. Air defense systems intercepted and destroyed seven missiles and 16 drones, the air force confirmed. Despite these defenses, ballistic missile hits were recorded in the Sumy and Kyiv regions.

Russian aerial attacks have become a nightly occurrence since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. These strikes often target both military and civilian infrastructure, including critical energy facilities, in an attempt to destabilize Ukraine’s resilience.

In retaliation, Ukraine has intensified its drone and missile strikes within Russian territory. On Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone attack in western Russia caused a fuel spill and fire at an oil depot, according to a Russian regional governor.

Kyiv has continued to push its Western allies for advanced air defense systems to counter the unrelenting aerial attacks. The escalating exchange of strikes highlights the ongoing intensity of the conflict, with both nations increasingly targeting each other’s critical infrastructure.

The situation remains tense, with both sides sustaining aggressive military campaigns as the war approaches its second year.
