Eko Hot Blog reports that Former Nigerian international Etim Esin has voiced concerns over the Super Eagles’ dependence on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen for scoring, urging the team to adopt a more diversified attacking strategy.
Esin emphasized that the responsibility for scoring goals should not fall solely on Osimhen’s shoulders.
Etim said “Back then, we used to have multiple sources for our goals, but now it seems to come either through Osimhen or his work.
“That is not acceptable in this modern era of football,”
“So, if Osimhen doesn’t play, we can’t have goals? He should even be rested in some of these games, like against Benin, even if he was fit, he should have been rested.
“That is how football is played, good link-up plays and goals coming from all corners of the team.”

Esin’s comments came amid ongoing controversy involving Osimhen and former coach Finidi George.
The Napoli striker has faced significant criticism from fans following his social media outburst against Finidi.
The altercation started when Finidi reportedly stated that he wouldn’t plead with Osimhen to join the national team.
After the striker withdrew from two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to injury.
Osimhen, replaced by Enugu Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke, reacted angrily, asserting that he had informed Finidi about his condition.
The aftermath of the disagreement has resulted in a split fan base, with some condemning Osimhen’s actions while others support his right to voice his frustrations.
Adding to the tension, former Nigeria goalkeeper Idah Peterside advised Osimhen to apologize to Finidi, hinting at a potential ban from the national team if he refused to do so.
