Eti-Osa Residents Remember Late Oba For His Goodwill
By Ibrahim Kegbegbe
The people of Eti-osa have organised a memorial prayer for the late Oba Yekini Adeniyi Elegushi (Ikushelan ll) of Ikate Land; sending moral information to the present Obas to emulate his philanthropic legacy.
At the prayer organised by the present and ex-students of Zumuratu-l-Mumin Arabic School, Eti-osa through their WhatsApp group on Thursday 16th, 2020, a younger brother of the Amir of the school, Al-Sheikh Sulaiman Kegbegbe, said the people of Eti-osa have not discovered any replicant of the late Oba, in terms of free goowill, especially within other living Obas in Eti-osa, since 10 years ago the Oba left the world for his ancestors’ eternal Kingdom.
“We should not only pray to Almighty Allah to grant him al-jonat firdaos. We should not only wish him a perfect peace. We should not only tell the whole world that the best man in Eti-osa has gone. We should stop telling one another that the human sympathiser has gone. We all know that he was the best giver when he was alive. What we need from you (the citizens of Eti-osa) is to tell the whole world that all the legacies which he left behind will be emulated by you,” he said while emphasizing his messages to other students, especially the indigenes among them, “Tell the whole world that you will continue with his good deeds.”
An ex-student, Ustaz Ibrahim Abdul Semiu, said that students have been praying for the late Oba since he demised this world, added that the online prayer was organised to make it a congregational one among the students. He moved further to say that no one would not remember Oba Yekini, especially at this period of covid-19 pandemic, as his absence is highly felt.
“If Kabiyesi was alive, he would have given palliative care to both indigenous and non-indigenous residents of Eti-osa at this period of economic hardship,” he said.
A female student, who is also an indigene, Zainab Balogun, said that the present Kabiyesi, Oba Saheed Elegushi, has been trying his best in giving financial gestures to people of Eti-osa and food stuffs to alleviate the poverty level of the indigent people among others in Eti-osa.
She also added that Alhaji Abdul Rafiu Elegushi (Baba Oba) who is also an eminent son of the late King has been engaging in one humanitarian service or the other. He moved further to say that the king’s legacy is not dead; it should, however, be propagated to outside of the late king’s household.
“May Almighty Allah bless all the successors of the late King and uphold the unity among them forever,” she said.
